Nestled in the heart of Riverdale, New York, Tobala is an Oaxacan-inspired restaurant owned and operated by Chef Moises Lopez, his wife Eluisania Lopez, Moises' sister Roma Mercader, and her husband Billy Mercader, who together bring their deep-rooted love for Oaxacan cuisine and culture to every part of the dining experience. They have spent over a decade perfecting their craft through learning from artisans and chefs both in Oaxaca and New York.

The name "Tobala" is inspired by one of Oaxaca's most revered agave species, celebrated for its role in food, drink, and medicine. Their beverage program features traditional Mexican cocktails and a curated selection of mezcals and tequilas sourced from multi-generational producers.

The kitchen reflects the rich and complex flavors of Oaxaca through dishes that honor traditional ingredients — from callos y mole verde and Pulpo de Puerto with chicatana salsa to enmoladas de pato in mole negro.

More than a restaurant, Tobala is a celebration of family, culture, and community. For Bites! of the North Bronx, see the $50 menu below — your choice of entrée plus one appetizer or one dessert (May 11–23, 2026).
